Insurance without the fog

Know what you’re buying.

A strong policy is not always the cheapest one. These basics help you compare coverage with confidence.

THE SIMPLE IDEA

You transfer a large financial risk for a predictable premium.

You pay the insurer a premium. If a covered event happens, the policy helps pay eligible losses—after your deductible and within your limits.

Covered lossDeductiblePolicy limit
01Premium vs. deductible

Your premium is what you pay to keep coverage active. A deductible is your share of a covered claim before the insurer pays. A higher deductible may lower the premium, but increases what you could pay out of pocket.

02Coverage limits

A limit is the maximum the policy will pay for a covered loss or category. Choose limits based on the risk you need to protect—not only the minimum required.

03Exclusions and endorsements

Exclusions identify what the base policy does not cover. Endorsements modify or add coverage. Read both carefully; two policies with similar prices can protect you very differently.

04Liability protection

Liability coverage may help if you are legally responsible for injury or property damage to someone else. Adequate limits can help protect income and assets.

AUTO INSURANCE

Protection on and off the road

What it may cover

Liability for injuries or property damage, collision damage to your vehicle, theft, weather, glass, medical payments, and uninsured or underinsured motorists.

Common gaps

State minimum limits may be too low. Rental reimbursement, roadside assistance, rideshare use, custom equipment, and loan or lease payoff protection may require separate coverage.

Ask yourself: Could I comfortably pay to replace my vehicle or defend a major liability claim?

HOME & RENTERS

Your property and your liability

What it may cover

The home structure, detached structures, personal belongings, additional living expenses, personal liability, and certain medical payments to others.

Common gaps

Flood, earthquake, sewer backup, high-value jewelry, home business property, and replacement-cost differences may be excluded or limited without added protection.

Ask yourself: Is my rebuilding limit based on today’s construction cost—not the home’s market value?

LIFE INSURANCE

A financial plan for the people you love

What it may provide

A death benefit that beneficiaries may use for income replacement, housing, debts, education, final expenses, or other financial needs.

Important choices

Term coverage generally protects for a set period. Permanent coverage may last for life if maintained and can include cash-value features. Cost and suitability vary.

Ask yourself: Who depends on my income, and for how many years would they need support?

HEALTH INSURANCE

Care, costs, and network access

What to compare

Monthly premium, deductible, copays, coinsurance, out-of-pocket maximum, prescription coverage, provider network, and rules for referrals or prior authorization.

Common surprises

A low premium can come with a higher deductible or narrow network. Confirm preferred doctors, hospitals, prescriptions, and expected services before enrolling.

Ask yourself: What would my total annual cost look like in both a normal year and a high-care year?

COMMERCIAL INSURANCE

Coverage built around how you operate

What it may cover

General liability, commercial property, business interruption, professional liability, cyber events, commercial vehicles, workers’ compensation, and more.

Common gaps

Personal policies typically exclude business activity. Contractors, leased property, online operations, customer data, and employee risks can create coverage needs.

Ask yourself: Which single event could interrupt my business or create the largest lawsuit?

UMBRELLA & SPECIALTY

Protection beyond the standard policy

Where it helps

Umbrella coverage may add liability limits above eligible home and auto policies. Specialty policies can address motorcycles, boats, landlords, recreational vehicles, and unique property.

What to check

Underlying policy requirements, excluded activities, who qualifies as an insured, territory limitations, and whether personal or commercial use changes the risk.

Ask yourself: Do my assets, income, rentals, vehicles, or activities create liability beyond ordinary limits?

Coverage descriptions are general education only. Actual availability, terms, exclusions, limits, eligibility, and pricing depend on the insurer and policy. Review your policy documents for controlling terms.

A relationship, not a transaction

Clear answers.
Honest guidance.

I believe insurance should give you clarity—not pressure. My job is to understand what matters to you, explain the choices plainly, and help you make a confident decision.
